Hinovations Art Gallery explores Religion in Art through a group exhibition featuring Portraits of the Virgin Mary, on display from December 20 to December 28, 2017. “The Madonna in Art” art exhibition includes paintings in all media, featuring the Virgin Mary alone and with Child. The exhibition to be displayed for only two weeks in December with an Opening Reception on Wednesday, December 20 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibition is free and the public is invited to attend.
She is the most recognizable woman in the world. Her image has been widely represented through centuries in a wide range of styles. Hinovations collaborates with Rio Grande artists presenting an assortment of reverential portraits of the Mother. Featured artists include Celerino Castillo, Audrey Cisneros, Lupe Hernandez, Raquel Hinojosa, Ana Luisa Lopez, Rene Lopez, Thelma Lugo, Gaby Rico, Turgo Rogare, Noe Vela, Lorena Vela and Clarissa Zarate. The local talent embodied the Virgin Mary utilizing acrylic paints, charcoal and pastels, textured material and gold leaf. The beauty of the Mother is exemplified with transparent pinks and golds and venerated with rich blues and reds.
On December 20th the public can view an exhibit of 20 artworks presented for the first time, featuring religion in art including the Madonna, Virgin Mary with Child, a very modern Last Supper, an elegant Pieta inspired painting as well a variety of textured renditions of the Sacred Hearts. Many of the artists will be present as they interact with the public and speak about the inspiration behind their work.
