Springsteen & I, Monday 7pm, Cinemark Hollywood USA. Special one-time-only screening of this documentary about the influence of Bruce Springsteen’s career on a generation. Only showing at Cinemark in McAllen & Harlingen.

Back To School Blood Drive, Tuesday 9am-3pm, 1924 W US Hwy 83 (Rio Grande City). Stop by the Blood Mobile all day to help save lives.

Summer Sandcastle Contests, Tuesday 9am-3pm, La Quinta Beach (SPI). The series continues at different locations over the next few weeks.

Flash Gordon Free Film Screening, Tuesday 7pm, Cine El Rey. The weekly series of free screenings, popcorn and music after the film continues with the 80s cult classic. 

CHACHALACA Volunteer Mornings, Wednesday 8-11am, Quinta Mazatlan. I volunteered last week and I can tell you that there’s a lot of work to be done. You’ll get dirty, but it’s a great workout as well. Click the link to get the easy-to-fill-out volunteer form.

La Jornada De Joaquin Book Reading, Thursday 6pm, Speer Memorial Library (Mission). Texas writer and attorney Chuy Ramirez will also sign his new novel.

Pedro Rivera Jr., Thursday 7pm, McAllen Civic Center. Tickets for “Homenaje de Todos los Tiempos” start at $10 plus fees.

RGV Vegans July Meet Up, Thursday 7pm, Snowbite (Edinburg). The Vietnamese restaurant will cook up vegan cuisine for this monthly meet up. If you’re already practicing or interested in becoming vegan, you’re welcome. If you’re interested, contact the organizers ASAP so they can make enough food.

Edinburg Roadrunners vs. San Angelo Colts, Thursday & Friday 7:05pm, Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Roadrunners return after a long road trip for a four-game series.

Eddie Saenz CD Release Show, Thursday 8pm, Rodz Sports Theater (Edinburg). The local country artist will peform songs from his new album.

Eureka The Butcher (Marcel Rodriguez Lopez), Thursday 8pm, Thirsty Monkey. The former member of The Mars Volta headlines a diverse show with Austin’s Lace Tunes and DJ Boozwa.

CHACHALACA Volunteer Mornings, 8-11am, Quinta Mazatlan. I volunteered this past Wednesday and it was great to be in a beautiful sanctuary, hidden in plain view. It’s hard work but as I learned, the work is never truly done.

23rd Annual Texas Hunters & Sportsman’s Expo, 10am-7pm, McAllen Convention Center. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors & free for kids under 12.

The Market at McAllen, 10am-1pm, McAllen Public Library. Yes, it’s still open all summer. Our weekly market brings together local produce, artisan food, arts & crafts and more.

1st Annual Bark ‘n Bowl, 2-4pm, Flamingo Bowl. $20 per person supports pet therapy in our community.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Fully Charged Gold Edition, 3:30pm & 7:30pm, State Farm Arena.

International Cultural Summer Fiesta, 4-10pm, Hidalgo Memorial Park. A battle of the bands, cosplay, zombie run and much more is part of this community event sponsored by the Hidalgo International Cultural Arts Committee.

The Texas Takedown Tour, 5pm-midnight, Fall Back Records. Like Monroe, Against the Archaic, Ashes of Alaska, Texas, Oh Broken Remedy, Far From Embrace, Last Action Hero, And The Hero Prevails and Secondhaven will also perform. $6 cover.

Taffelmusik Summer Concert Series, 7-10pm, UTB Arts Center (Brownsville). This Brownsville string quartet performs weekly in July & August. Concert 3 is a baroque contert with piantist Dr. Francisco Rocafuerte.

McAllen Parks & Recreation: Movies in the Park, 8:30pm, Westside Park. Free films for the whole family. This week’s film is Brave.

S.T.M.P. presents Hammerwhore, 9pm, The Hop Shop (Harlingen). The speed metal/thrashers are joined by Belligerency, Panteon and Redemption by Cutting Fists. Free for 21+, $5 cover for 18-20.

Nueva Luz Foundation Benefit Show, 9:30pm, Aces North. Rock Angels Productions has brought together this benefit for the new nonprofit, which supports foster children in the RGV. Exile the Damned, Affliction of Sin & Metalstorm perform. No cover.

The Squeeze Box presents ‘Metropolis’, 10pm, Metropolis. A black & white party celebrating the classic 1927 film, ironically place in a venue that shares the film’s name.

Tribute to Rey Duran, 6-9pm, Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance. The dancer and teacher will be honored with dancing & music. Tickets are $20, and the money will go towards Duran’s dream of a establishing a nonprofit dance academy.

Upper Meets Lower: Valleywide Bike Ride, 6:30-8:30pm, Arroyo Park (Harlingen). Social cyclists from McAllen and Brownsville will meet up in this first-ever event.
